A 14-year-old boy has been found guilty of sexually assaulting his 12-year-old sister last year. The conviction, delivered by Justice Daniel Goundar at the High Court in Suva, stems from a disturbing incident where the victim was helping with her homework. The boy allegedly coerced her into retrieving his clothes from under the bed, after which he pushed her and proceeded to assault her.
The assault continued in the washroom, and it only stopped when the boy heard their mother’s voice nearby. He also issued threats to his sister, warning her against reporting the incident to their mother. Justice Goundar concluded that the evidence presented established the boy’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, resulting in a verdict of two counts of rape against him.
This case highlights the critical issues of child safety and the need for protective measures within families. The conviction is not only a legal response but also part of a larger conversation about preventing such heinous acts in society. It underscores the importance of creating safe environments for children and supporting victims in their pursuit of justice.
