Hibiscus Festival Hazards: A Call for Safety or Just Bad Luck?

Opposition MP Jone Usamate emphasized that public safety must always be a top priority. In a recent statement, he highlighted concerns raised during the final day of the Hibiscus festival, where unsecured roofing tins became airborne, posing significant safety risks.

“Fortunately, there were no injuries during this morning’s incident involving the roofing tins at the festival. However, had this occurred later in the day, it could have resulted in serious injuries to festival-goers,” Usamate remarked.

He raised inquiries regarding the lack of security for the roofs and questioned the decision of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) authority to permit the stalls when they were not adequately secured. Additionally, Usamate asked whether the stall owners, who invested considerable amounts for their spaces, would receive any compensation for the incident.
