Hibiscus Festival 2024: Suva Comes Alive Amidst Rain and Revelry

The Hibiscus Festival 2024 rejuvenated the streets of Suva City, infusing the community with vibrant energy. Opetaia Ravai, chairman of the Hibiscus Festival, conveyed his heartfelt thanks to everyone who played a role in the event’s success.

The festival wrapped up yesterday with a float parade, where contestants and their teams persevered through heavy rain as they made their way through Suva City. Ravai emphasized the significance of such an event for Suva, particularly after the difficulties experienced during the pandemic. “We hope everyone enjoyed the week of activities,” he remarked. “Suva needed something like this after a five-year hiatus, and I believe it has been a positive development.”

Looking forward, Ravai expressed hope for future festivals, stating, “There’s always room for improvement, and I’m confident that the Hibiscus Festival will continue to evolve, providing even more enjoyment for everyone.”

As the float procession took place, hundreds of spectators gathered along the streets, from the Flea Market to Ratu Sukuna Park, to take in the festivities. However, earlier in the day, strong winds had torn corrugated metal from a stall, raising concerns about the stability of festival structures.

There has been no response from officials regarding that incident.
