The 1967 Miss Hibiscus contest received a strong response, with the contest committee expressing satisfaction over the number of entrants in an announcement made in The Fiji Times. The newspaper reported that a press release highlighted the names of four out of the eight contestants participating in this year’s pageant.

The committee had originally expected 18 contestants, but the actual number was a pleasant surprise, as noted by The Fiji Times. Among the latest entrants were Miss Clara Hoong, Miss Linda Hadden, Miss Annette Lepper, and Miss Ann Ah Jack.

Nineteen-year-old Miss Clara Hoong, a stenographer, enjoys reading, dressmaking, indoor basketball, badminton, and watching movies. She is sponsored by Bridgestone Tyres in partnership with Caines Jannif Limited.

Twenty-year-old Miss Linda Hadden, also a secretary/stenographer, is sponsored by Burns Philp (South Sea) Company Limited. Her interests include horse riding, swimming, dancing, and reading.

Miss Annette Lepper, 21, sponsored by the Fiji Hotel Association, works as a receptionist/clerk. Her hobbies include swimming, water skiing, reading, and cooking.

Nineteen-year-old Miss Ann Ah Jack, a cashier sponsored by Morris Hedstrom Limited, enjoys basketball, dancing, gardening, socializing, and collecting records.

The contestants’ complete schedule was organized prior to the festival, which took place from September 7 to October 8, 1967.
