Hekari United FC has secured a spot in the OFC Men’s Champions League 2025 final after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over AS Tiga Sport in the semi-finals at the National Stadium in Honiara. This marks a significant milestone for Hekari, as it is their first final appearance since they lifted the trophy in 2010. Remarkably, head coach Jerry Allen is the only remaining member of the club from that title-winning team.

The match was decided by a first-half goal from Rex Naime, who finished a well-placed long pass from Lucas Santos by driving the ball into the net just past the 27-minute mark. Hekari adopted an aggressive strategy, built on their successful group stage performance, quickly putting pressure on Tiga Sport.

Despite AS Tiga Sport’s hopes of reaching the final for the first time, they faced a difficult match after losing a player to a red card early in the second half. Wadria Hanye’s dismissal reduced Tiga to ten men and hindered their attempts to equalize as they pushed aggressively forward.

Hekari United’s goalkeeper, Dave Tomare, played a crucial role in preserving the lead, making a standout save that denied Mickaël Partodikromo’s header just before halftime. After sustaining their narrow lead into the second half, Hekari resisted a late push from Tiga, who struggled to find clear opportunities. The final whistle triggered jubilant celebrations from Hekari’s supporters, and now they prepare to face Auckland City FC in the upcoming final.

Auckland City, having recently defeated Ifira Black Bird FC in the other semi-final, is known for its strong legacy in Pacific football and will present a formidable challenge. This final match promises to be a thrilling encounter, showcasing the resilience and determination of Hekari United as they aim to reclaim their place at the top of regional football.

Building on Hekari’s commendable journey back to the finals, their story demonstrates the power of perseverance and the potential for success, serving as an inspiration for aspiring teams in the Oceania football scene.
