Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! This week is looking wetter than a waterfall at full blast. The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi has issued a hefty heavy rain warning for the western, northern, and interior parts of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, and for all you island enthusiasts out there, the Yasawa, Mamanuca, Kadavu, and nearby small islands are in for a drenching. Those in Lau and Lomaiviti are included too, so it’s a party of precipitation across the Fiji group!
The culprit behind this soggy situation? An active trough of low pressure with clouds and rain—that’s meteorological speak for a no-fun-allowed kind of day. Expect periods of rain, some seriously heavy downpours, and a chance of thunderstorms over the Greater Nadi Area, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, Vatukoula, Rakiraki, and more. So if you’re in the interior regions of Ba-Ra-Nadroga-Navosa, Naitasiri, and the northern provinces of Bua and Macuata, you might want to start looking for your life jackets!
Now, let’s break it down region by region, shall we?
In Navua, Suva, and Nausori, you can expect the rain to play hide and seek, but be sure to hide your belongings because isolated heavy falls might catch you off guard later in the day.
On the sunny side over in Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba? Just kidding—it’s more like a cloudy carnival with rain making a special guest appearance, and those thunderstorms bringing enough thunder to rival your neighbor’s karaoke nights.
Sigatoka and Coral Coast, brace yourselves! You’re in for some heavy shower antics that might just lead to flash flooding in those low-lying areas. So make sure your sandcastles are built to withstand the floodwaters.
Rakiraki and Tavua? Think you’re escaping this wetness? Nope! Expect the same rainy fate with isolated thunderstorms to spice up your day.
The Yasawa and Mamanuca group isn’t getting a break either, as they’ll be washing away any beach plans with heavy rainfall and the occasional thunderclap. So unless you enjoy a good downpour, it might be a Netflix binge-watch in your future.
Labasa, Savusavu, and Rotuma, you’re also on the list! With showers that could completely soak you through in an instant, you might want to keep that raincoat handy.
And speaking of coats, the winds are joining the party too—moderate to fresh northwesterly winds that might just make it a breezy ride through the heavy rain. Luckily, the seas are only moderate to rough, so if you were planning a boat trip, you might want to rethink your life choices.
Outlook for Monday: It’s more of the same, ladies and gentlemen. Occasional rain, heavy at times, and isolated thunderstorms are going to keep up their undercover operations. So let’s all take a deep breath, grab our umbrellas, and go have some fun—preferably indoors!
