Motorists in the Western Division are being advised to exercise heightened caution as ongoing heavy rainfall is leading to significant flooding, causing many roads and crossings to become inaccessible.
Authorities have reported that various routes in Rakiraki, Lautoka, Ba, and Tavua are either closed to all traffic or are only passable for four-wheel-drive vehicles. Drivers are encouraged to avoid flooded areas and adhere to official road closure advisories to minimize the risk of accidents.
In Rakiraki, important crossings like Katudrau, Narara 1, Drana Crossing on Korotale Road, FSC Road, and Waimari Road have been closed to traffic. Additionally, segments of Kings Road between the Volivoli Road Junction and Ellington are restricted to larger vehicles only.
Lautoka has also experienced severe impacts, as numerous Irish crossings along Saru back road, Vaivai Road, Navula Road, Drasa Dam Road, and Abaca Road are currently closed. Parts of Buabua Road are limited to a single lane, with several crossings accessible solely to four-wheel-drive vehicles.
In the Ba and Tavua regions, flooding has necessitated the closure of several crossings, including Vatuyaka, Varadoli, Cemetery Road, Koula Road, Marinitawa Road, Vunisamaloa Road, and multiple crossings along Dramasi Road. Some routes are only open to vehicles with high clearance.
Road users are strongly cautioned against attempting to cross flooded roads and are urged to plan their travel meticulously as these adverse conditions persist. Authorities are actively monitoring the situation and working to ensure safety for all commuters.
