Attention, fellow sunshine lovers! You might want to swap your swim trunks for an umbrella because a HEAVY RAIN ALERT is in full swing for the eastern half of Viti Levu. This includes the lovely folks from Serua and Namosi all the way to Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra, Cakaudrove, and southern Bua, plus our friends in Lau, Lomaiviti, and Kadavu. Fun fact: the rain might just be the best excuse to stay indoors!

What’s happening? A lazy trough of low pressure is lounging over the Fiji islands, taking its sweet time to move east. It’s brought some cloud cover, showers, and rain that will hang around for a few days like that friend who overstays their welcome.

Forecast until midnight tomorrow: Expect occasional rain (heavy about as often as your neighbor tries to start a conversation) and a few thunderstorms to spice things up over Lau and Lomaiviti, Kadavu and their tiny island pals, the eastern half of Viti Levu, Cakaudrove, and southern Bua. The rest of Fiji? Well, you might catch a break with fine weather—just be ready for the surprise visit of afternoon or evening showers.

For those in the Western part of Viti Levu and the southern area of Vanua Levu, expect some thunder and lightning as they throw a mini tantrum of rain—because why not?

Warning: localized heavy falls could turn low-lying and flood-prone areas into miniature swimming pools. So, if you’re in one of those spots, pack your floaties!

As for the winds, they’ll be moderate from the east, with gusts that might challenge your umbrella’s integrity during those downpours. The seas are in a moderate mood, so prepare your sea legs if you’re venturing out.

Looking ahead to Sunday: More rain and fun thunderstorms are on the docket, especially over Lau, Lomaiviti, eastern Viti Levu, Kadavu, and their neighboring islands. But don’t fret—this rain will eventually behave and ease to mere showers later in the day. Just keep the poncho handy!
