Weather Update

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 7:30 PM.

Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A HEAVY RAIN ALERT has been declared for the adventurous souls in Southern and Eastern Viti Levu (including the lovely Momi to Sigatoka stretch), Kadavu and its pint-sized neighbors, as well as the enchanting Lau and Lomaiviti groups. If you thought your plans could withstand a little drizzle, think again!

But wait, there’s more: a STRONG WIND WARNING is in effect for Kadavu and its nearby islands. So, if you’re planning to go fly a kite this week, you may want to reconsider—unless of course you fancy a spontaneous visit to the next village over!

The situation is as follows: a pesky trough of low pressure is creeping in from the west, bringing along its party of clouds and showers, set to crash our outdoor plans from tonight through Thursday. Meanwhile, a northeasterly wind is taking charge, but it’s getting a makeover to be more northerly tonight.

Here’s the forecast until midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:

Today:
In Kadavu and surrounding tiny islands, as well as the southern Lau and Moala group: Get ready for north winds whipping up at about 45 km/hour, with gusts hitting a thrilling 55 km/hour. Hold onto your hats!

For the rest of Fiji: Expect moderate to fresh northerly winds that might feel like they’ve taken a windsurfing class! Gusty conditions will flirt with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms—you know, in case you like a little excitement in your life.

Prepare for cloudy periods with soft showers and potential thunderstorms over Serua, Namosi, Navua, Suva, Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra, Southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Lau, Lomaiviti, and yes, Kadavu. Rain is making a grand entrance from the west, spreading love (or moisture) throughout the group. Slightly drier weather exists elsewhere, but that may not last long—showers will undoubtedly show up to the party later tonight!

Tomorrow:
For Kadavu, the islands, and southern Lau: Northwesterly winds could be kicking at 45 km/hour, with gusts strutting their stuff at 55 km/hour.

For everyone else: We’re seeing moderate to fresh northwest to southwest winds, with gusts playing peek-a-boo during heavy downpours and thunderstorms. Occasional rain, heavy at times, is set to sprinkle (or drench) the whole of Viti Levu, Kadavu, and surrounding islands, as well as Lau and Lomaiviti groups. Some parts might see isolated thunderstorms, and yes, we’re keeping an eye out for local heavy showers that could trigger flash flooding—just in case you thought you could avoid a rain check!

Rain will be slowly exiting the west later in the night—like a well-timed magician’s act!

Outlook for Thursday: Expect cloudy spells with some showers over the Northern Division and northern Lau group. Showers will take their time clearing out later in the day. But don’t worry; fine weather is expected for Navua, Suva, Nausori, Sigatoka, Coral Coast, Kadavu, and the rest of the Lomaiviti group. As for everyone else, the weather will mostly cooperate, allowing you to shake off a few brief showers.

In a nutshell, grab your rain gear and do some sun dances—it looks like we’re in for a wet and windy surprise, so maybe rethink that outdoor barbecue for now!

Stay dry and humorously optimistic!
