Weather Bulletin: Bring Your Umbrella (and maybe a boat)
Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 10:45 am on Tuesday, January 28, 2025
Attention, Fiji – it’s raining cats and dogs, and perhaps even a few monkeys! A heavy rain warning is still in play for the entire archipelago. Get your raincoats ready, because it looks like we’re in for a splash-tastic time. Also, for details that would make a meteorologist proud, check out https://www.met.gov.fj/index.php?page=warn1#20014.txt.
If you thought you could dodge the puddles, think again! A flash flood warning is blowing through all low-lying areas, flash-flood-prone spots, and those small streams that always seem to swell up faster than your in-laws’ opinions at dinner. This includes the Naitasiri Province, Coastal Serua-Namosi, and the Navua-Lami-Suva-Nausori areas, to name just a few soaked places!
The clouds had a party last night, and they’ve invited rain to keep the celebration going for the next few days. The wind is showing up too, blowing in from the north to northeast, as if it’s on its way to cooler climes.
Forecast for the Fiji group until midnight tomorrow: Hold on to your hats! Expect periods of rain, heavy at times, along with a few thunderstorms cooking up some drama. Localized downpours could turn those low-lying areas into swimming pools. Winds will be moderate, but gusty winds could crash the party in spots where rain gets rowdy. Seas will also be moderate, so perhaps skip the boat ride today unless you have a knack for surfing!
Looking ahead to Thursday: The rain will continue to be a frequent guest, heavily drenching the Yasawa group, northern regions, and various interior areas of Viti Levu. Meanwhile, all your favorite afternoon and evening thunderstorm enthusiasts will be making appearances elsewhere.
Now let’s break it down by location:
**Navua / Suva / Nausori:** Rainy periods and thunderstorms will keep you company.
**Nadi / Lautoka / Ba:** Same story here—expect rain and the occasional threesome with thunder.
**Sigatoka/Coral Coast:** Yep, more rain and maybe even a thunderstorm cameo.
**Tavua/ Rakiraki:** Prepare for a plot twist—rain and thunderstorms, of course.
**Yasawa/Mamanuca group:** Rain is in the forecast, with thunderstorms lurking around.
**Labasa:** Rain, rain, go away… oh wait, you’re not going anywhere.
**Savusavu:** It’s a wet and wild theme here as well.
**Lau and Lomaiviti group:** You guessed it, more rain and thunder!
**Kadavu:** Cloudy with rain and the occasional raucous thunderstorm.
**Rotuma:** Enjoy the winds, moderate at best, mixed with get-your-umbrella-ready rain.
In summary, Fiji, brace yourself for a wet few days ahead where the weather seems to have gone big on ‘liquid sunshine!’ Don’t forget your umbrella and possibly a kayak!
