Weather Update
Brought to you by the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi
as of late last night, January 27, 2025
Grab your umbrellas and put on your galoshes, folks! We’ve got a heavy rain warning taking center stage for our friends in the Northern Division, Yasawa, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups. And if you’re hanging out in the eastern half of Viti Levu—think Rakiraki to Tailevu to Suva—better keep that raincoat handy too! It seems Mother Nature is throwing quite the rain party that’s not just limited to the popular spots but spilling over all across the group.
And for those of you who think you can dodge the deluge, think again! A flash flood alert is currently in place for all low-lying areas prone to moisture-related drama, particularly in Vanua Levu and eastern Viti Levu. So if you live near a small stream, now is the time to practice your “duck and cover” moves!
What’s stirring up this watery frenzy? A low-pressure trough is determining the mood in the southern parts of Fiji, while an east to northeast wind flow casually flows through the country like that one friend who shows up uninvited to all the events. To keep it short and sweet, more clouds and rain are in the forecast for the next few days, and believe us—it’s not the kind of weather to flaunt a new silk shirt.
So, what can you expect tonight and into Tuesday? Expect rain with a sprinkle of thunder to keep things exciting, and brace yourselves for some localized downpours. Those in flash flood-prone areas might want to check their emergency kits—don’t worry, you might finally have an excuse to grab those snacks you’ve been saving!
Looking ahead to Wednesday, the forecast remains gloriously unimpressed: More rain, more thunder, a little bit of wind, and seas that might get a tad bumpy. So if you’re planning to take a dip in the ocean, you might want to check in with your life jacket first.
