Weather Update
Attention all weather enthusiasts and those who just want to know if they should grab an umbrella or a snorkel! It’s Thursday, April 3rd, 2025, and we’re serving up a hefty helping of rain courtesy of the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi, where it’s perpetually “let’s make it rain!”
The eastern half of Viti Levu is looking like the set of a disaster movie with a heavy rain alert still in effect. If you’re in Serua/Namosi, Navua, Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, or Ra, and the Northern Division, Central and Northern Lau, including the Lomaiviti Group, put on the galoshes! This trough of low pressure isn’t in any hurry to leave, slowly drifting northward and soaking our beautiful islands until tomorrow.
Here’s what to expect until midnight:
Prepare for occasional rain, heavy at times – think of it as nature’s way of giving your car a free rinse. Expect some thunderstorms, just to keep things exciting. The Eastern half of Viti Levu will have notable cloudiness, especially in the interior, where the rain will be at its heaviest. And let’s not forget the Western part of Viti Levu, which will experience brief showers, said to be so quick that you might only need a quick dab with an umbrella.
However, don’t underestimate those afternoon and evening thunderstorms; they may just bring “severe” vibes, along with heavy downpours that might lead to flash flooding in those sneaky low-lying areas. So, if you see rivers where roads used to be, consider it a surprising twist in your daily commute!
As for the winds, you can expect moderate to fresh easterly breezes, which might rustle your hair a bit and lead to a temporary wild look for today’s selfie.
As for the seas, they might get a bit rowdy, so think twice before trying to out-swim the waves.
Now, looking ahead to Saturday: Expect cloudy periods with some drizzle making its rounds from Serua-Namosi to Souva and beyond, while fine weather might grace other parts. Just a gentle reminder: brush up on your umbrella and raingear again!
Here’s a little snapshot of specific areas:
– Navua/Suva/Nausori: More rain and maybe a thunderous encore.
– Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Clouds are on the menu along with a side of heavy thunderstorms.
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Keep your umbrellas handy; they’ll definitely earn their keep!
– Tavua/Rakiraki: Big rain fans, rejoice!
– Yasawa/Mamanuca: A preview of showers and thunderstorms.
– Labasa and Savusavu: Occasional rain that might feel like mother nature’s a bit moody today.
– The exotic Lava and Lomaiviti: You guessed it—more rain!
Let’s not forget Kadavu: partly cloudy with a chance of afternoon excitement in thunderstorm form.
Rotuma is hanging in there with moderate easterly winds and some showers. Don’t forget your raincoat if you’re wandering around there!
That’s your quirky weather update for today! Stay dry out there! Or, embrace the rain—either way, keep those spirits high!
