Attention all you adventure seekers and rainbow chasers! A HEAVY RAIN ALERT is currently in full swing and it’s not going to take a raincheck. Yep, you guessed it—the entire Fiji group is in for some waterworks!
Here’s what the weather has in store for us: a rather sluggish trough of low pressure is meandering just north of our beautiful islands, bringing along its cloud buddies and a good dose of rain. And if that wasn’t enough, another trough is pushing its way from the west, like a needy friend wanting to join the party. This rain extravaganza is set to continue until early next week—so keep your umbrellas handy and your swim trunks visible!
Forecast until midnight tonight:
For Vanua Levu, Lau, and Lomaiviti: Expect occasional rain that might just rattle your roof. There could also be some thunderstorm surprises, so have your lightning dance routine ready.
In the interior of Viti Levu, starting from Sigatoka through Navua, and stretching all the way to Suva and north to Tailevu: Showers will be popping up, increasing to a full-blown rain party in the afternoon with a splash of thunderstorms!
Elsewhere across our lovely islands, comprise occasional rain with some isolated heavy downpours and, yes, more thunder! Localised torrential downpours may lead to flash flooding of low-lying and flood-prone areas, so hold on to your flip-flops!
Winds will be moderate from the north-west, with gusty surprises in areas of heavy precipitation. Seas will be moderate, but stormy squalls may decide to join the mix, leading to some rough patches.
What to expect on Monday:
More of the same! Occasional rain will occur over Vanua Levu, Lau, and Lomaiviti, while the rest of us will experience cheerful showers, heavy at times, mixed with thunderous displays. Those living in flood-prone areas, maybe consider bringing out the life jackets or building an ark!
For specific areas:
Navua, Suva, Nausori: Expect unreliable occasional showers turning into frequent rain and some friendly thunderstorms showing up in the afternoon.
Nadi, Lautoka, Ba: A delightful mix of rain and isolated heavy falls, with an occasional peal of thunder to shake things up.
Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Showers will increase their enthusiasm, becoming rain and often accompanied by thunderstorms later in the day.
For Tavua, Rakiraki, Yasawa, and Mamanuca: Rain will pop by now and then, possibly heavy with an attitude of thunder.
Labasa: There could be rain visiting with some heavy interruptions and maybe a surprise thunder moment.
Savusavu: Count on the clouds to deliver some showers that will intensify to frequent rain and isolated thunderstorms as the day matures.
For Lau and Lomaiviti: Expect frequent rain interruptions that might try to crash your day!
Kadavu and Rotuma will not be spared either, with rain and thunder poised to keep everyone guessing throughout Monday.
So, dear islanders, grab your raincoats and prepare for a wet and wild time!
