Heavy Rain Alert: Occasional Thunderstorms Forecasted for Fiji, Yasawa, and Mamanuca Groups

Weather Update

Greetings and welcome to your not-so-typical weather update from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi, provided at the magical hour of 9:28 PM on Monday, April 14, 2025!

Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A HEAVY RAIN ALERT is currently waving its arms in Yasawa, Mamanuca, Viti Levu, Kadavu, and those smaller islands that always seem to throw a party. If you’re curious about the nitty-gritty of these rain antics, feel free to take a detour to our Special Weather Bulletin here: https://www.met.gov.fj/index.php?page=warn1#20014.txt.

So, what’s the scoop? A pesky trough of low pressure has decided to park itself over our lovely islands, bringing along its entourage of clouds, showers, and rain for a multi-day engagement. That’s right, it’s a moisture buffet with a side of northeastern winds making things cozy out here in Fiji waters!

Forecasting into the night, you can expect the occasional but very serious rain—heavy at times, with a few booming thunderstorms keeping you on your toes, especially over Yasawa, Mamanuca, Viti Levu, Kadavu, and the smaller islands. And don’t forget, for our friends elsewhere, there are some isolated thunderstorms and heavy showers looking for some screen time too. Just a heads up: those localised heavy falls might lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Let’s hope your morning commute does not turn into a canoe race!

Expect moderate to fresh northeasterly winds to accompany the wet festivities, and seas that are moderate to rough. That’s Mother Nature’s way of reminding us that she’s still in charge!

Looking ahead to Wednesday: the weather promises to keep the mood heavy with more occasional rain, plenty of thunderstorms, and the chance of your afternoon plans being rained on (literally). Southern Lau and the Lomaiviti groups are also set to join the wet party.

Here’s a quick weather mood check for specific areas:

– Navua / Suva / Nausori: Rain’s the main act with a side of thunder!
– Sigatoka / Coral Coast: Same here, folks—stay alert for those thunder-clap surprises!
– Nadi / Lautoka / Ba, and Tavua/Rakiraki: Tune in for regular rain and a few thunderous guests.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca: Yep, you guessed it—rain and thunderstorms, just like the rest!
– Labasa and Savusavu: Some showers followed by the perfect drama of isolated thunderstorms.
– Kadavu: Say hello to the rain, heavy at times, with a few thunderous interruptions.
– Rotuma: An active trough is on the way for you too, bringing showers, heavy rain, and a few surprises.

So there you have it, rain lovers! Don your best raincoats, and don’t forget to dance in the rain if you can! Stay safe out there!
