Weather Update from Nadi’s Crystal Ball Department
Issued at 3:30pm on Friday, March 21st, 2025
Hold onto your umbrellas, folks, because a HEAVY RAIN ALERT is still waving its soggy flag over the eastern half of Viti Levu! That’s right, we’re talking about a wet party from Serua/Namosi through Navua to Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, and Ra. Oh, and don’t forget Cakaudrove, southern Bua, Lau, Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, and those charming nearby little islands!
A trough of low pressure is hanging around like an unwelcome guest who just won’t leave. This means clouds, showers, and rain will be crashing the party for the next few days, so you might want to reconsider your plans of staying dry.
Forecast until midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:
Expect occasional rain, with some areas featuring heavy downpours and possibly a few dramatic thunderstorms over Lau and Lomaiviti, Kadavu and the aforementioned smaller isles, eastern Viti Levu, Cakaudrove, and southern Bua. Meanwhile, in other areas, enjoy the sunshine’s company—unless it’s the afternoon or evening, when showers may pop up out of nowhere!
Newsflash: Afternoon thunderstorms are preparing for heavy appearances in Western Viti Levu and Southwest Vanua Levu. Just a heads up, localized heavy rain could lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone spots—time to check your sandbags!
We can expect moderate easterly winds, which might get a little gusty when those thunderstorms decide to drop by for a visit, and seas that are also feeling a bit moderate.
Looking ahead to Sunday: More of the same! Occasional rain and those familiar thunderstorms will pop up across Lau, Lomaiviti, and the eastern half of Viti Levu, along with Kadavu and southern Bua. The rain will mellow into showers later in the day, but don’t let your guard down—afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms will still be on the agenda.
Now let’s break it down for some key areas:
Navua / Suva / Nausori: Occasional rain and some heavyweight thunderstorms coming your way.
Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Fine one moment, showers and thunderstorms could crash the scene in the afternoon or evening.
Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Looking fine for most of the day but stay alert for those sneaky afternoon thunderstorms.
Tavua/Rakiraki: Occasional heavy rain and some thunderous festivities—this area is definitely in the mood for a wet time.
Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Mostly fine, but don’t let your guard down during isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
Labasa: Cloudy with showers and a few thunder-inviting moments.
Savusavu: Expect occasional rain and some thunderclaps.
Lau/Lomaiviti: Heavy rain with a thunderous soundtrack—better keep those raincoats at hand!
Kadavu: Same story—occasional rain, heavy excitement, and some thunder!
For Rotuma: Occasional showers with a few thunderstorms, because why should the fun stop just because you’re on an island?
Outlook for Sunday is more of the same, with a chance of cloudy periods, some showers, and isolated thunderstorms ready to surprise you! Remember to keep your umbrellas handy, and brace for the wet weekend ahead!
