Weather Update
Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 11:00 PM on Friday, March 21, 2025
Attention, weather aficionados! Grab your umbrellas, put on your best rain boots, and prepare for a wet and wild adventure because a HEAVY RAIN ALERT is still in effect for the eastern half of Viti Levu (think Serua/Namosi all the way through to Nausori), Cakaudrove, the beautiful southern Bua, Lau, Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, and those charming tiny islands nearby. It’s going to be quite the soggy show, folks!
What’s brewing, you ask? A slow-moving trough of low pressure, the culprit of all this watery mischief, has found a cozy spot over the Fiji group and is preparing to sprinkle its love (and rain) across our fair islands for the next few days.
Forecast until midnight Saturday for the Fiji group: Expect occasional rain—heavy at times—with a few thunderstorms, particularly over Lau, Lomaiviti, Kadavu, and our beloved eastern Viti Levu. Meanwhile, if you’re on the western side, you might enjoy some fine weather, but don’t get too cozy; afternoon or evening showers are sneaking in like uninvited guests.
Those afternoon thunderstorms? They’re not shy, and they might bring along some heavy falls over Western Viti Levu and Southwest Vanua Levu. Don’t be alarmed, but be prepared—localized heavy rain could lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Moderate easterly winds will be blowing through, becoming gusty during the downpours, and the seas will be moderate as well. So while you’re contemplating your next beach trip, make sure the tides are friendly!
Outlook for Sunday: Expect more of the same with occasional rain and a sprinkle of thunderstorms across our favorite spots. But don’t worry, the rain is expected to take a break and ease into mere showers later in the day.
Now, let’s break it down by regions:
For Navua / Suva / Nausori: Occasional rain and a few thunderstorms—good luck staying dry!
For Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Fine weather for now, but those afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms are up to their usual hijinks.
For Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Fine conditions, *mostly*, with the occasional afternoon shower trying to crash the party.
For Tavua/Rakiraki: Prepare for some occasional heavy rain and thunderstorms in Rakiraki, while the rest of you enjoy occasional sunshine dodging those mischievous afternoon showers.
For Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Mostly fine, but keep an eye out for those pesky isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
For Labasa: Cloudy with some sporadic showers and thunderstorms, because why not?
For Savusavu: Occasional rain joining the festivities, punctuated by a few thunderstorms.
For Lau/ Lomaiviti: Expect rain to insist on being heard, accompanied by a few thunderous applause.
For Kadavu: Think you can escape? Occasional rain and a few thunderstorms say otherwise.
For Rotuma: That infamous trough is crashing your island scene too, bringing occasional showers and some thunder.
Outlook for Sunday in Rotuma: Cloudy periods with showers and isolated thunderstorms trying their best to steal the limelight.
Stay dry, stay safe, and remember: every drop of rain is a reminder that sunshine will eventually return!
