Heavy Rain Alert in Southern and Eastern Fiji as Trough Approaches, Thunderstorms and Flood Risk

Weather Update

Grab your umbrellas and waterproof boots because it looks like Viti Levu, Kadavu, and some nearby small islands are in for a heavy downpour! A heavy rain alert is now officially in place. Think of it as the rain’s way of throwing a wild party, and trust us, you’re invited whether you like it or not!

Currently, we have a nice east to southeast breeze sweeping through, but a sneaky trough of low pressure is waddling its way from the south, bringing clouds and showers along for the ride. Expect the fun to kick off later tonight as those southern and eastern regions get hit by a shower barrage.

Here’s what to wear (or what to keep handy) over the next 24 hours:

Today:
Expect cloudy intervals with a sprinkle of showers over places like Sigatoka-Korolevu, Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, and a few other locales trying to dodge the shower madness. The rain will start popping up more frequently after dark. Elsewhere, it might be fine, with just the odd shy afternoon or evening shower trying to make an appearance. And yes, there’s a chance of afternoon or evening thunderstorms over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. So stay tuned!

Tomorrow:
Showers will be on and off like a moody house guest, particularly in the southern and eastern parts. Meanwhile, those in other regions can expect partly cloudy skies with some afternoon or evening showers making a guest appearance too. Be wary of the odd thunderstorm that could crash the party! Fresh east to southeasterly breezes will keep things interesting, and seas might get a bit feisty.

Outlook for Sunday:
Rainy shenanigans continue with occasional rain and a chance for isolated heavy downpours and thunderstorms over most areas. Winds will keep the party lively and seas will remain moderate to rough.

For specific areas like Navua, Suva, or Nausori:
Today: Watch for cloudy moments with showers ramping up as night falls.
Tomorrow: Occasional showers with a chance of some dramatic thunderstorms.
Min: 21, Max: 30.

In Tavua/Rakiraki:
Today: Live your best life and enjoy the fine weather, just watch out for the afternoon shower crashing the fun.
Tomorrow: Clouds will join the fun with a chance of rain and maybe a thunderstorm.
Min: 22, Max: 31.

For those in the delightful Yasawa/Mamanuca group:
Today: It’s mainly fine, but keep an eye out for an afternoon shower.
Tomorrow: Partly cloudy with a chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
Min: 22, Max: 31.

And for the ever-sunny Rotuma:
Currently: It’s all clear with a few gentle breezes.
Tomorrow: Min: 24, Max: 31.
Outlook on Sunday: The clouds might fly in without notice.
Min: 24, Max: 31.

So, dear friends, strap in, because it seems like Mother Nature has her own plans for the weekend!
