Weather Newsflash
Greetings from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi, where it’s 5:30am on this fine Friday, February 28, 2025, and we have a HEAVY RAIN ALERT twirling like a hula dancer for the entire Fiji Group!
Let’s dive into the weather pot like enthusiastic crabs at a buffet! We have a pesky trough of low pressure bringing clouds and rain just west of Fiji. Meanwhile, a moist northerly wind is sweeping through, making it feel a bit like a tropical sauna—minus the margaritas, of course.
Now, as we look at the forecast until midnight tonight, prepare yourself:
For those in the Yasawa and Mamanuca Group, Kadavu, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups: Expect occasional showers crashing your beach party, along with the possibility of some thunderstorm karaoke. Not the soothing kind, we promise!
For the Southern and Interior parts of Viti Levu (from Momi through Navua to Suva, including the lovely Naitasiri and Serua/Namosi): You might enjoy a fine day, until the afternoon (cue dramatic music) when showers and thunderstorms descend like gremlins—heavy falls included.
Elsewhere around Fiji, cloudy periods will dance with showers and isolated heavy falls. Winds will be moderate and northerly, occasionally turning fresh and gusty for those of you in the splash zone.
Looking ahead to Saturday, the forecast suggests we won’t be winning any drought awards. Expect occasional rain, heavy at times, along with a few dramatic thunderstorms to spice things up!
Breaking down some locales:
– Navua, Suva, Nausori: Fine until the afternoon when you might want to grab an umbrella for those cheeky showers and storms.
– Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba: A mix of cloudiness with showers sneaking in to steal your sunshine. Hold onto your hats!
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Fine until the usual suspects—afternoon showers and thunderstorms—decide to crash the party.
– Tavua/Rakiraki: Cloudy periods will surprise you with some light showers and thunder, like that friend who shows up uninvited.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Expect a splash of showers and occasional thunderstorms—bring the rain dance!
– Labasa & Savusavu: Cloudy with some showers (you guessed it!) creating a little wet adventure.
– Lau/Lomaiviti & Kadavu: More showers and thunderstorms knocking at your door.
– Rotuma: The winds remain brisk while clouds may sprinkle brief showers—keeping things lively!
So, grab your umbrellas, put those flip-flops on standby, and be prepared to dodge some raindrops! Happy weathering!
