Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A HEAVY RAIN ALERT has been sounded for the entire Fiji group. It looks like Mother Nature is getting ready to give us an early New Year’s shower, and she’s not just talking about a sprinkle! For the full scoop, trundle over to the Special Weather Bulletin on Heavy Rain at the National Weather Forecasting Centre’s website.
What’s happening? An active trough of low pressure is creeping in from the west, bringing clouds and the promise of rain, likely starting on Tuesday (30th Dec) and sticking around until the festivities commence on Thursday (01st Jan). Meanwhile, we’ve got a sumptuous flow of moist north to northeast winds sweeping over the country like a friendly wave.
Here’s what you can expect by midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:
Prepare for LOTS of clouds, a few showers, and the occasional electrical light show in the form of isolated thunderstorms. Heavy falls will be like that dramatic friend who always enters the room making a scene—hard not to notice! As the rain ramps up, flash flooding could be a thing in low-lying areas.
Expect moderate to fresh winds blowing in from the north and northeast—occasionally gusty, because why not? The seas will be moderate to rough, making surfboards and floaties the perfect accessories for your rainy day.
Looking ahead to Wednesday: Frequent rain in the forecast, and maybe even a few tantrums in the form of thunderstorms. If you thought today’s showers were something, just wait! Persistent heavy falls might again cause flash flooding in those already prone to it.
