Weather Update

Heavy rain alert is still doing its thing over the eastern half of Viti Levu. That’s from the fine folks in Serua and Namosi all the way through to Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, and Ra, plus some company from Cakaudrove, southern Bua, and those little islands near Kadavu. What’s the deal? A sluggish trough of low pressure is camped out to the east of Fiji, taking its sweet time to drift away. Meanwhile, another one is preparing to crash the party from the west starting tomorrow. This means we’re in for some cloud clinging and shower shenanigans over the next few days.
For today, expect occasional rain and a good splash of heavy downpours accompanied by the occasional thunderclap over Lau and Lomaiviti. The rain will take a breather later on, just in time for when you want to dry your laundry. Expect more rain to keep the eastern half of Viti Levu company, along with Kadavu and the nearby smaller islands, so don’t forget your umbrella — or a canoe, just in case!
In other areas, it’ll be sunny interspersed with some scattered showers, much like today’s mood swings. Just brace yourself for some afternoon thunderstorms that may leave you questioning whether or not you should have brought that extra towel.
There’s a chance of localized heavy falls leading to some minor splash zones, especially in flood-prone areas. So, keep your rubber boots handy!
Winds will be moderately easterly, gusting like they just won a race during those heavy rain moments. Sea conditions are moderate as well, so don’t go perfecting your surfing skills just yet.
Looking ahead to Monday: Expect a sequel of occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms carrying on over the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, the eastern half of Viti Levu, and the usual suspects in Cakaudrove and southern Bua. Cloudy periods will hang around with more chances of evening showers and thunderstorms that could deliver some heavy excitement.
