Weather Update
Brought to you fresh from the National Weather Forecasting Centre, Nadi, at 7:30pm on Thursday, June 5th, 2025.
Grab your umbrellas and maybe a flotation device because a HEAVY RAIN ALERT is in full swing across the Fiji Group! Yes, it seems the skies have decided to host a water party, and everyone’s invited!
What’s happening? A pesky trough of low pressure is sneaking in from the west, bringing a generous share of clouds and rain to our sunny island paradise. Expect this atmospheric mischief to spread throughout Fiji, so prepare for nature’s very own symphony of rain!
Here’s the scoop for the Fiji group until midnight tomorrow: Expect occasional rain showers, with some deciding to come down heavy, and don’t be surprised if you catch a few squally thunderstorms trying to steal the show. Windy? Oh, you bet! Moderate north to northwest winds will gust dramatically, especially in those downpours. And let’s not forget about the sea doing its best impression of a wild rollercoaster – moderate to rough out there!
Now, let’s peek into Saturday’s crystal ball: More rain, heavy at times, particularly over Lau and Lomaiviti group. The good news? After the sky cries a bit, it’s expected to ease off to just brief showers later in the day. Cloud cover will be the main star over Kadavu, Sigatoka, Serua-Namosi, Naitasiri, Tailevu, Rakiraki, Cakaudrove, and Southern Bua, with only a few breaks of sunshine to break the gloomy facade. The night? Expect the cool embrace of nighttime air.
Region by Region Rundown:
– Navua/Suva/Nausori: Prepare for heavy on-and-off rain with a couple of thunderstorms eager to drop by.
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: The rain’s coming in thick and heavy, but don’t worry – fine weather is on the agenda for Saturday night!
– Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Same deal – rain and thunderstorms looking for attention, then it’s fine weather and cool evenings ahead.
– Tavua/Rakiraki: Heavy rain making sure everyone remembers they forgot their raincoats, but fine, cool nights await!
– Natadradave/Korovou: Expect those pesky rain clouds to do their thing, with Saturday bringing some brief showers to keep the excitement alive.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca group, Labasa: Heavy rain with a sprinkle of thunder, then the forecast for Saturday brightens up nicely.
– Savusavu: Repeat the rain and thunder cycle, but Saturday serves up cloudy periods and brief showers for variety.
– Lau/Lomaiviti: Heavy rain and thunderstorms – basically the weather won’t be shy.
– Kadavu: Rain is in the forecast again, with some short-lived showers for Saturday.
And if you’re in Rotuma: A STRONG WIND WARNING is waving its hand! Gusty easterly winds are blowing at 20 to 25 knots, making sure every sailboat feels challenged. The land’s getting a taste of fresh breezy fun, and yes, rough seas are in the mix too – but fine weather will attempt to shine through the brief showers.
Saturday’s sights? Showers lurking around – a perfect excuse for staying in with a hot drink!
So gear up, Fiji! The weather is ready for a wet and wild adventure. Stay dry (or at least try), and we’ll keep you updated!
