Weather Alert
Good morning, Fiji! Buckle your raincoats and secure your umbrellas because it looks like Mother Nature has cranked up the waterworks for us. As of now, a heavy rain warning is rolling through the Northern Division, Yasawa, Lau, Lomaiviti groups, and the eastern half of Viti Levu, where it seems like the skies might just take a break from their usual blue and opt for a lovely gray. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
Over the next few days, a lazy trough of low pressure has decided to settle in our southern regions, but it’s not alone! An east to northeast wind flow is also joining the party. And if that wasn’t enough, another trough of low pressure is making its way from the west – kind of like that friend who always shows up unannounced.
So, what can you expect today until midnight? Hold onto your hats! We have occasional rain that will be heavy at times, with some thunderstorms brewing over Kadavu, Lomaiviti, and the central and southern Lau groups. The rest of the gang will be quite cloudy with a sprinkle of showers.
As the day progresses, expect those showers to get a little more aggressive and transform into full-blown rain, accompanied by a few rumbles of thunder that might just remind you of the last family gathering. Localized heavy downpours could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas, so keep an eye out! Moderate winds are blowing in from the east to northeast, but expect them to swing northward tomorrow.
Looking at the rest of the week, it seems the rain is planning to stick around like an uninvited guest – heavy rainfall and the occasional thunderstorm are on the agenda for Wednesday as well.
Here’s how various spots in Fiji will shape up:
– In Navua, Suva, and Nausori: Expect cloudy skies with showers that could make a dramatic entrance, turning into rain with a side of thunder later today.
– In Nadi, Lautoka, Ba: The clouds are also bringing their shower friends, and they’re likely to be frequent and heavy, too.
– Over on the Coral Coast: Cloudy with some showers brewing, with more rain and a sprinkle of thunder expected as the day wears on.
– In Tavua and Rakiraki: It’s the same story! A gloomy day with showers that may turn fierce later.
– Yasawa and Mamanuca group: It’s cloudy with a chance of showers that will soon become heavy, and you guessed it, thunderstorms are on the horizon.
– For Labasa and Savusavu: Be prepared for those clouds to drop their water weight – showers will be frequent!
– Gurus over in Lau and Lomaiviti group: Occasional heavy rain and thunderstorms are set to take center stage.
– Kadavu: Expect the rain to come down heavy and loud, with thunderstorms adding a little drama.
– For our friends on Rotuma: Moderate winds and some cloudy periods, with scattered showers trying to steal the spotlight.
Stay dry and keep your sense of humor intact amidst the downpour!
