Weather Alert
Brought to you by the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi
as of 5:30 AM on Saturday, March 22, 2025
Hold on to your umbrellas, folks, because a HEAVY RAIN ALERT is hanging over the eastern half of Viti Levu like an uninvited guest! This includes the party zones from Serua/Namosi through Navua to Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra, as well as Cakaudrove, southern Bua, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, and the nearby mini islands. Don’t forget your dancing boots – they’ve got a good chance of getting soaked!
What’s causing this? A pesky trough of low pressure is meandering over Fiji, taking its sweet time moving eastward, and it’s bringing along some gloomy clouds, showers, and a rain dance that might just last a few days.
So, what’s the forecast for today? Expect some occasional rain that might get a little heavy now and again, along with a couple of thunderstorm performances over Lau, Lomaiviti, Kadavu, the eastern half of Viti Levu, Cakaudrove, and southern Bua. Elsewhere, things will be fine—unless you count the possibility of a few afternoon or evening showers. Thunderstorms are also expected to crash the party over Western Viti Levu and the southwest of Vanua Levu.
Just a heads-up: localized heavy downpours may lead to some flash flooding in low-lying areas. So, if you’re in a flood-prone spot, might be a good day to build an ark!
We’ll have moderate easterly winds blowing around, getting a little gusty during those heavy falls and thunderstorms. The seas aren’t feeling too fierce either.
Looking to tomorrow (Sunday)? More of the same! You can expect occasional rain and some thunderstorms with isolated heavy bursts over the same regions, including Lau, Lomaiviti, eastern Viti Levu, Kadavu, Cakaudrove, and southern Bua. Rain should ease up later in the day, but it might not be done throwing a splash or two. Afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms could still give everyone a good soaking.
For Navua/Suva/Nausori:
Expect a repeat of occasional rain and a few thunderstorms – it’s like déjà vu!
For Nadi/Lautoka/Ba:
Things will be mostly fine—unless you count a few cheeky afternoon or evening showers and the occasional thunderstorm crashing the scene.
For Sigatoka/Coral Coast:
Mostly fine as well—just a sprinkle here and there during the afternoon or evening, and maybe a thunderstorm looking to join the fun.
For Tavua/Rakiraki:
Be prepared for occasional rain and some thunder rumblings in Rakiraki. Elsewhere? Just fine with a touch of afternoon or evening showers.
For Yasawa/Mamanuca:
Fair skies should dominate, with only isolated afternoon or evening showers and a thunderstorm looking to raise its hand.
For Labasa:
Expect some cloudy periods with a sprinkle of showers and possibly a thunderstorm swinging by.
For Savusavu:
Just a touch of rain and a few thunderstorm outbursts peppering the day.
For Lau/Lomaiviti:
Occasional heavy rain interspersed with a few thunderstorms—the weather drama continues.
For Kadavu:
Similar story—occasional rain, thunder, and a touch of drama.
For Rotuma:
Things are a bit calmer, with occasional showers and a few thunderstorms keeping it interesting.
So, whatever your plans, keep that umbrella handy, and remember, if it’s raining, it probably just wants to remind us how much it appreciates our attention! Stay dry and keep smiling!
