Heavy Rain Alert for Eastern Half of Viti Levu, Fiji as Trough Brings Widespread Showers and Thunderstorms

Weather Update

Attention all weather enthusiasts and rain dance aficionados! Grab your umbrellas and floaties because a heavy rain alert is still in effect for the eastern side of Viti Levu, stretching from Serua-Namosi through Navua-Suva-Nausori all the way to Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, Yasawa Group, the Northern Division, Lau and Lomaiviti Groups, Kadavu, and those cheeky smaller islands nearby. If you want the nitty-gritty details, check out the Special Weather Bulletin on Heavy Rain from NWFC.

Let’s break it down! A trough of low pressure is hanging out over eastern Fiji, bringing with it a generous helping of clouds, showers, and rain that will be doing its thing for the next few days. So, if you were planning to dry wash your car, now is not the time; it’ll just lead to a new sort of jungle!

For the forecast today, expect occasional rain—some heavy enough to justify building an ark—along with a couple of thunderstorms, especially over Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, and of course, that illustrious Yasawa Group and the Northern Division. We’re talking about cloud cover and wetness that could make a sponge weep in despair, particularly during the afternoon or evening hours.

Now, keep an eye out for localized heavy showers that may pull a fast one and lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas. And let’s not forget the winds! Moderate to fresh easterlies are here to keep things breezy, so maybe wear a hat that you don’t mind losing in the gusts.

Looking ahead to tomorrow (aka Wednesday), the occasional rain and those pesky isolated thunderstorms will continue their guest appearance over several areas. Thankfully, the rain is expected to ease down to what we like to call “shower status” later in the day—so, hold off on the rubber ducky purchases for now!

Here’s a quick recap for those city slickers:

– Navua / Suva / Nausori: Rain, some heavy and a sprinkle of thunder. Min: 22, Max: 29.
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Cloudy with afternoon fun showers—possibly with thunder! Min: 22, Max: 30.
– Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: More clouds, more showers, and yes, more thunder! Min: 22, Max: 33.
– Tavua/Rakiraki: Just your regular rain and a bit of thunder too! Min: 22, Max: 31.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Rain and a sprinkle of thunder make for an exotic wet day. Min: 23, Max: 30.
– Labasa, Savusavu, Taveuni: Just a bit of rain, rhythmically heavy at times. Min: 22, Max: 30.
– For Rotuma: Clouds, showers, and a nice breeze. Min: 25, Max: 30.

So remember to pack your raincoats and adjust your plans accordingly! May your cups overfloweth with rain (as long as it doesn’t overflow your living room)!
