Weather Update
Attention, Fiji! Gather ‘round and grab your umbrellas because we’re in for a splashy day! The heavy rain alert is still strutting its stuff all over the Fiji Group, and let’s say, it’s not going anywhere anytime soon!
Why all the fuss? Well, it turns out there’s a rather lazy trough of low pressure lounging just north of us, and there’s another one coming to crash the party from the west. This combo is sending clouds and rain our way courtesy of that charming northwesterly wind – all so that we can stay nice and damp for a little while longer.
As for what to expect until midnight tonight:
For our pals in Vanua Levu and northern Lau group, you’ll be treated to occasional rain that may decide to come down like it has a vendetta, along with a few thunderstorms trying to steal the show.
Folks in the interior parts of Viti Levu – from Sigatoka to Navua, extending all the way to Suva up to Tailevu North – should also brace for occasional showers that will generously increase to rain with a side of thunderous roars, especially by this afternoon and evening.
If you’re elsewhere, don’t get too comfy; it’s partly cloudy with some rain on the menu, and those isolated heavy showers might pop up like surprise guests from the afternoon onwards. Be ready for some localized heavy falls that could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas – those puddles will turn into mini swimming pools in no time!
Expect moderate to gusty northwesterly winds, perfect for anyone wanting to add an extra ‘whoosh’ to their day, and seas that are moderate overall, but rough during any squalls – so if you were planning a leisurely swim, you might want to rethink that!
Looking ahead to Tuesday, we’re not out of the woods yet—more occasional rain, heavy at times with a few thunderstorms, especially over Vanua Levu and northern Lau. The interior of Viti Levu, including Kadavu and southern Lau, will also see showers and the occasional thunderous outburst. So, you guessed it – bring your raincoat, and make sure it’s stylish!
Here’s the regional forecast for some of our favorite spots:
– Navua, Suva, Nausori: Showers are your best friends today, increasing to rain by the afternoon or evening with some thunder for flair.
– Nadi, Lautoka, Ba: Partly cloudy initially – but wait for those thunderstorms to crash in the afternoon.
– Sigatoka and Coral Coast: Similar theme – showers will come knocking, especially later in the day.
– Tavua, Rakiraki, Labasa, Savusavu: Seems like you too will have a mix of rain and thunderstorms to keep you on your toes.
Lau and Lomaiviti, your day will feature occasional rain although you’ll still find moments of calm with the sun peeking through.
Kadavu, expect a tease of clouds with rain attempting to rain on your parade in the afternoon.
As for our friends in Rotuma: It’s all about that rain with thunderstorms getting cozy and the winds picking up the pace occasionally.
So there you have it, folks! Stay dry, stay safe, and remember to dance around in the rain if you feel so inclined!
