Heartfelt Victory: Athlete Dedicates Gold Medal to Late Father

Joshua Ducia, an athlete from Ratu Sukuna Memorial School, celebrated a heartfelt victory in the senior boys’ 200-meter final at the Suva Zone One Athletics competition, completing the race with a time of 21.69 seconds. This win held profound significance for Ducia, as he dedicated his performance and gold medal to the memory of his late father, who passed away in 2018. Reflecting on his achievement, Ducia expressed his desire for his father to have witnessed the moment, highlighting the emotional connection that drives many athletes.

He also extended his gratitude to his coach, Banuve Tabakaucoro, affectionately known as the King of the Pacific, for his guidance and support throughout his training. In addition to honoring his father, Ducia recognized his mother as his principal supporter, dedicating his medal to her as well.

As he looks ahead to the Fiji Finals, Ducia acknowledges the competitive field but remains determined to give his best effort. His journey is reminiscent of other young athletes who have honored their late fathers through their sporting endeavors, displaying a prevailing theme of resilience and hope within the Fijian athletics community. This motivating spirit showcases how personal loss can become a source of strength, urging athletes to strive for excellence while cherishing their loved ones’ memories.

The Suva Zone One Athletics competition, which is currently being broadcast live on FBC Sports, has provided a platform for numerous athletes to shine and set their sights on future accomplishments, fostering a positive atmosphere in athletics in Fiji.
