Families from Koro in Levuka, Lomaiviti, gathered joyfully as they awaited the arrival of the MV Captain Inoke, a vessel from Goundar Shipping Limited. This event was particularly meaningful for the Ratotodro family, as the ship is named in honor of their late father, Captain Inoke Ratotodro.
Melaia Ratotodro, the eldest daughter of the late captain, was overcome with emotion upon seeing the vessel dock at Port Mua-i-Walu, reflecting on her father’s legacy. “Our dad, a dedicated employee of Goundar Shipping Limited, passed away last October, and this gesture from the company is truly appreciated,” she shared. She remembered her father as a hardworking individual who devoted 30 years of his life to the company.
George Goundar, managing director of Goundar Shipping, expressed his deep friendship with Mr. Ratotodro, acknowledging him as a key figure in the company’s early days. “When I founded this company in 2011, he was by my side, offering invaluable advice and insights into the workings of the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji,” he recounted.
The MV Captain Inoke is now under the capable command of Sainimere Qutonilaba, a skilled captain who joined Goundar Shipping as a cadet in 2011 and has been a vital part of the fleet’s expansion.
Before boarding the vessel for a tour, attendees participated in a traditional ceremony, underscoring the cultural significance of the occasion.
