A 73-year-old retired sugarcane farmer from Lautoka, Suresh Chand, recently underwent a successful triple graft open-heart bypass surgery at the Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) Hospitals in Nadi, Fiji, on January 14. Mr. Chand expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the team of medical professionals and support staff who attended to his needs before and after the surgery.
For some time, Mr. Chand had been experiencing severe chest pains, leading him to seek treatment at Lautoka Hospital. After an angiogram at CWM Suva, he was advised that the required surgery could not be performed locally, leaving him feeling disappointed and disheartened. However, his outlook changed after learning about the successful heart surgery of another local woman at PSH Hospitals last November, which had been highlighted in articles by The Fiji Times.
Following this, arrangements for Mr. Chand’s procedure were swiftly made, and he is now on the path to recovery. He attributes part of his resolve to face life’s challenges to inspiration drawn from his distant relative, the late Dara Singh, a renowned figure in Indian Cinema and a former wrestling champion. Mr. Chand admires Singh’s resilient spirit, which continues to motivate him at this stage of his life.
Mr. Chand’s son, Samil, who resides in New Zealand, praised the exemplary service and expedited care provided by PSH Hospitals. He strongly recommended the facility to others, noting the convenience and cost-effectiveness of receiving high-quality medical treatment locally.
PSH Hospitals has recently achieved significant milestones, conducting complex open-heart surgeries over three consecutive days in mid-January and has successfully treated numerous heart patients since November. The services are led by experienced cardio-thoracic specialists, including Dr. Sanjeev Khulbey, who has three decades of surgical experience.
The hospital’s founder and CEO, Parvish Kumar, emphasized the commitment to delivering world-class medical services and mentioned upcoming open-heart surgeries planned for mid-February. He reassured potential patients with financial constraints about the availability of flexible payment options that prioritize saving lives over profit.
PSH Hospitals is now operational 24/7, welcoming patients any time, ensuring they have access to necessary medical assistance without delay.
This positive development in local healthcare not only highlights the advancements in medical services available within Fiji but also instills hope for many patients seeking critical treatments without the burden of traveling abroad.
