Ritesh Narayan of Nawaka, Nadi, expressed overwhelming gratitude towards cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Khulbey after his 67-year-old father, Satya Narayan, underwent a critical quadruple graft heart bypass surgery. The life-saving procedure took place at the Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) Hospitals on May 29, marking a significant milestone for the facility as it expands its advanced medical services.
Satya Narayan, who has faced long-standing heart issues, became the first recipient of a major medical grant from the newly established PSH Foundation. Launched just one week prior to the surgery, this initiative aims to provide urgent medical assistance to patients in need. The launch of the foundation was made official by Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Chand Prasad and endorsed by community leaders, showcasing a collaborative effort to support local healthcare.
The Narayan family had initially struggled to raise the $30,000 needed for the surgery but were relieved to receive timely support from the PSH Foundation, ensuring that Satya could undergo the procedure without further financial burden. In discussions with the family, Dr. Khulbey reassured them that Satya was out of danger, although the surgery’s complexity was noted, given his previous heart condition.
According to Parvish Kumar, founder and CEO of PSH Hospitals, the swift assistance provided demonstrates the foundation’s commitment to aiding not just the Narayan family but also other patients across Fiji and the Pacific region. Kumar emphasized that the PSH Foundation will screen potential candidates for similar grants, aiming to alleviate healthcare expenses for financially challenged individuals.
The foundation is expected to work closely with various community organizations to ensure that local residents have access to essential health services, illustrating a progressive shift in healthcare accessibility in Fiji. This community-driven initiative signifies a hopeful future, promising vital medical support for those facing urgent health challenges.
As healthcare capabilities expand, the PSH initiative reinforces the notion that high-quality medical treatment can be both accessible and affordable, resonating positively for the future of health services in Fiji.
