The Kadavu Medical Team, in partnership with the staff at Sai Prema Children’s Hospital, successfully hosted their inaugural ECHO Outreach day for children in Daviqele, located in Nabukelevu. This initiative utilized echocardiograms to identify various heart conditions, which can include issues stemming from heart attacks, heart failure, and congenital heart defects.
To facilitate access for families, the Ministry offered complimentary transportation for both children and their guardians to reach the screening venue. This support helped overcome potential transportation hurdles that might have otherwise prevented these children from receiving vital medical care.
During the outreach, a total of 395 children underwent screenings, resulting in 19 new diagnoses of Rheumatic Heart Disease, not accounting for any congenital heart diseases identified.
This outreach program not only highlights the dedication of medical professionals to improving child healthcare but also demonstrates a significant step in addressing cardiac health in vulnerable populations. Such initiatives can help mitigate long-term health issues and promote healthier futures for children in the community.
Overall, the successful screening day signifies hope and progress for children’s health care in the region, paving the way for continuous support and awareness around heart health.
