The Kadavu Medical Team, together with the medical personnel from Sai Prema Children’s Hospital, successfully organized their inaugural ECHO Outreach Day for children in Daviqele, Nabukelevu. This event utilized echocardiograms, which are vital for identifying heart conditions such as damage from heart attacks, heart failure, and congenital heart defects.
To overcome transportation challenges, the Ministry facilitated free transport for the children and their guardians to ensure they could access the screening site without difficulty.
In total, 395 children were screened during the outreach, leading to the identification of 19 new cases of Rheumatic Heart Disease, excluding those diagnosed with Congenital Heart Disease.
This initiative highlights the importance of early detection and intervention in pediatric heart health, providing hope for improved health outcomes for children in the region. Such outreach programs not only address immediate healthcare needs but also strengthen community support systems, showcasing a collaborative effort in improving the lives of children.
