The Kadavu Medical Team, in partnership with the medical professionals from Sai Prema Children’s Hospital, successfully held their inaugural ECHO Outreach day in Daviqele, Nabukelevu aimed at assessing children’s heart health. Echocardiograms, which are vital for identifying various heart conditions—including those stemming from previous heart attacks, heart failure, and congenital issues—were performed during this event.

Recognizing the transportation challenges faced by families, the Ministry of Health offered complimentary transport to ensure that children and their guardians could access the screening site with ease.

In total, 395 children were evaluated, revealing 19 new cases of Rheumatic Heart Disease, which highlights the presence of concerning heart health issues, separate from those related to Congenital Heart Disease.

This outreach initiative reflects a significant commitment to improving cardiac health among children in the region and underscores the vital role of community health programs in early diagnosis and intervention. The successful turnout and diagnoses made during this event bring hope that the trend of addressing children’s health issues in this area will continue, leading to more lives positively impacted by timely medical care.

The proactive measures taken, such as providing transport and conducting extensive screenings, show a concerted effort towards building healthier futures for these children and their families.
