The Kadavu Medical Team partnered with the staff from Sai Prema Children’s Hospital to host their inaugural ECHO Outreach day aimed at children’s health in Daviqele, Nabukelevu. This vital event utilized echocardiograms to identify various cardiac conditions—ranging from complications following heart attacks to congenital heart defects.
In a commendable effort to minimize transportation challenges, the Ministry facilitated free transport for both the children and their guardians to ensure they could access the screening services easily.
Overall, 395 children participated in the screenings, leading to 19 new diagnoses of Rheumatic Heart Disease, excluding the cases of Congenital Heart Disease already identified.
This initiative not only highlights the importance of preventive health screenings for children but also demonstrates a significant commitment to improving pediatric cardiac care in the region. With the successful identification of heart conditions, these efforts could lead to timely interventions, ultimately enhancing the health outcomes for affected children.
In a broader context, this outreach serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of community health programs and the positive impact they can have, ensuring that children receive the necessary care and attention they need to thrive.
