The Kadavu Medical Team, in partnership with the medical staff from Sai Prema Children’s Hospital, successfully held their inaugural ECHO Outreach day aimed at screening children in Daviqele, Nabukelevu. This event was significant in identifying potential heart issues among children, as echocardiograms are effective in detecting conditions such as heart damage, heart failure, and congenital heart defects.
To facilitate access to this vital healthcare service, the Ministry provided complimentary transportation for both the children and their guardians to ensure everyone could attend the screening.
During this outreach, a total of 395 children underwent screenings, revealing 19 new diagnoses of Rheumatic Heart Disease. It’s important to note that this figure does not include cases of Congenital Heart Disease, indicating a broader need for continued monitoring and support in child heart health.
This initiative demonstrates a commendable effort in addressing pediatric heart health, showcasing how collaborative healthcare practices can break down barriers and enhance access to critical medical services for disadvantaged communities.
By prioritizing the health of their children, these organizations are laying a strong foundation for healthier futures and building awareness around cardiovascular health from an early age.
