The Kadavu Medical Team, partnering with the staff from Sai Prema Children’s Hospital, successfully organized their inaugural ECHO Outreach day for children in Daviqele, Nabukelevu. This initiative focused on utilizing echocardiograms, a diagnostic tool that can identify various heart conditions, including damage caused by heart attacks, heart failure, and congenital heart defects.
In an effort to eliminate transportation obstacles, the Ministry provided complimentary transport for both the children and their caregivers to and from the screening location.
During the outreach, a total of 395 children underwent screenings, leading to the discovery of 19 new cases of Rheumatic Heart Disease. It is important to note that this figure does not account for children already diagnosed with Congenital Heart Disease.
This outreach program is a significant step towards improving children’s heart health in the region, demonstrating a commitment to providing essential medical care and raising awareness about heart conditions. The collaborative effort of the medical teams and the Ministry shows promise for future initiatives aimed at enhancing children’s health and well-being in the community.
Overall, this successful outreach highlights the importance of accessible medical care and the positive impact such programs can have on detecting and addressing heart diseases early in childhood.
