Healthcare Workers’ Safety: A Growing Concern Amid Community Challenges

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has emphasized that ensuring the safety and well-being of healthcare workers stationed in nursing stations and health centers nationwide is a key priority.

In an official statement, the Ministry condemned any individuals or communities that show disrespect or create an atmosphere of fear for the medical staff who dedicate themselves to serving in these areas.

The Ministry acknowledged a delay in appointing a replacement nurse for the Naililili Nursing Station in Rewa, following a series of robberies at the nursing station quarters last December. Currently, the nurse assigned to Naililili is working at Wainibokasi Hospital and only visits Naililili once a month to provide Maternal Child Health Clinics and Special Outpatients Clinics.

In addition, a laborer visits the nursing station once a month for cleaning duties.

To enhance safety, the Ministry plans to install fencing around the Naililili Nursing Station and carry out other minor renovations. They are also urging the community to help ensure the safety of healthcare workers serving in the region.
