Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) has launched a new charitable initiative, the Pacific Specialist Foundation, aimed at providing essential healthcare services to the most disadvantaged populations in Fiji and the broader Pacific region. This initiative, inaugurated in Nadi, reflects PSH’s commitment to democratizing healthcare access for individuals who cannot afford quality medical treatment.
Parvish Kumar, the CEO and founder of PSH, emphasized the foundation’s mission to support those facing health crises while struggling financially. “For many families, the inability to afford medical care can have devastating effects, not just on the individual needing treatment, but also on their loved ones,” Kumar stated. The foundation aims to offer free or heavily subsidized complex medical procedures, including lifesaving treatments like heart surgeries.
Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad lauded the initiative during its launch, highlighting PSH’s role in improving healthcare access for all Fijians. He noted that the strategic position of PSH’s facilities near the international airport enhances Fiji’s reputation as a destination for medical tourism, making it more accessible for retiree communities as well.
Since its establishment in 2016, PSH has made significant strides in providing primary care services, such as low-cost GP consultations, preventive health screenings, and essential diagnostic tests, to improve health outcomes within the community. The foundation’s efforts are part of a broader strategy to enhance healthcare accessibility, which also includes future plans to introduce cancer treatment options within Fiji, reducing the need for patients to travel abroad for care.
The establishment of the Pacific Specialist Foundation represents a meaningful step toward addressing healthcare inequities in the region. By fostering partnerships with governmental entities and communities, PSH is not just providing medical services, but is also nurturing hope for a healthier future for the underserved populations across the Pacific Islands. This initiative creates a positive outlook for improving overall health outcomes in the region, ensuring that medical care is a right and not a privilege.
