The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is investigating a concerning incident at the Warwick Resort in Sigatoka, following reports that seven guests exhibited symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and neurological issues after drinking a cocktail prepared at the resort’s bar. The group includes four visitors from Australia, one from the United States, and two foreign nationals residing in Fiji.

The affected individuals, whose ages range from 18 to 56 years, were initially treated at Sigatoka Hospital before being transferred to Lautoka Hospital due to the severity of their conditions. In response to the situation, the Ministry has deployed a team of health inspectors to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify any other guests who may have experienced similar symptoms after consuming the same drink.

In parallel, the Fiji Police Force has initiated its own investigation into the matter. The Ministry of Health is urging the public to exercise caution and ensure that the food and beverages they consume, especially during the festive season, are safe.

This incident highlights the importance of vigilance in food safety, particularly in hospitality settings. As investigations continue and efforts are made to ensure that such occurrences do not happen in the future, it is hoped that affected individuals will recover quickly and that measures will be put in place to enhance safety protocols in resorts and restaurants, ultimately ensuring a safer experience for all guests.
