A new health facility, the Dogo Health Centre, has been inaugurated to serve over 8,000 residents from the Dawasamu, Namena, and Sawakasa districts in North Tailevu. This center will also coordinate healthcare services offered at nursing stations located at Ratu Kadavulevu School in Dawasamu and Queen Victoria School.
During the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka highlighted that enhancing access to quality healthcare is a fundamental priority for the Coalition Government. He expressed that the launch of this health center marks a significant achievement for the government and the communities of Tailevu North, specifically those in Sawakasa, Dawasamu, and Namena. The Prime Minister extended his gratitude to the Minister for Health, the Permanent Secretary, and the New Zealand Government for their ongoing support of Fiji’s health sector.
The Dogo Health Centre underwent refurbishment after it was damaged by fire in 2017 and was funded by the New Zealand Government at a total cost of $472,895. Prime Minister Rabuka also addressed the pressing issue of Non-Communicable Diseases and encouraged the community members to utilize the health services provided, including testing for blood sugar and blood pressure, to monitor their health status.
He stated, “Our health is our wealth, and we must all take responsibility to look after ourselves—for our families, our community, and our nation.” He emphasized that the health of families and communities is vital to ensuring a robust Fiji.
Furthermore, New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Her Excellency Ms. Charlotte Darlow, reiterated her country’s dedication to supporting Fiji’s health sector, along with initiatives focusing on climate resilience, economic empowerment, and other significant areas.
This new health center not only represents an investment in healthcare but also highlights the commitment to improving public health standards and tackling health issues proactively, which is a promising move for the community and the nation as a whole.
In summary, the Dogo Health Centre’s opening marks an important development for the residents of North Tailevu, promising improved healthcare services and a proactive approach to health awareness among the community.
