The Health Ministry is actively addressing health issues in the Serua Province, particularly focusing on Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Current reports indicate there are 11 active cases of HIV in the area.
This message was highlighted by Jovesa Vocea, the Assistant Minister for Rural and Maritime Development, during the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty celebration held in Serua.
Mr. Vocea urged local residents to remain vigilant and enhance their awareness of the negative effects of drug use, which can contribute to rising social problems such as crime, domestic violence, sexual assault, and the transmission of HIV and AIDS.
He emphasized that combating these issues is a collective effort and that the community must engage in open discussions, learn from successful strategies, and share experiences to effectively address poverty.
Additionally, Mr. Vocea noted that drug abuse poses a significant barrier to societal development, particularly affecting the youth. He shared alarming statistics, revealing that over the past two years, there were two documented cases of unlawful possession of illicit drugs and one case of unlawful drug cultivation in Serua.
