Health Ministry Monitors Global ‘Monkeypox’ Situation – What You Need to Know

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has announced that they are actively monitoring the global situation regarding ‘Monkeypox.’

In response to inquiries from Fiji One News, the Health Ministry highlighted that the World Health Organisation declared ‘monkeypox’ a global health emergency in May 2023. The disease continues to spread in various regions, including parts of Australia.

To prevent the disease from entering Fiji, the government has implemented specific protocols and guidelines. These measures include routine health screenings at international borders and a 21-day incubation period.

Although no local cases have been reported, these guidelines aim to facilitate the early detection of any potential cases. The Ministry of Health underscores the importance of continued surveillance and the need to adapt protocols as necessary, while also emphasizing the importance of avoiding stigma associated with the disease.
