The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has announced that they are actively monitoring the global situation regarding ‘Monkeypox.’
Responding to questions from Fiji One News, the Health Ministry stated that according to the World Health Organisation, ‘Monkeypox’ was declared a global health emergency in May 2023 and continues to be a concern in some regions, including parts of Australia.
To prevent the disease from entering Fiji, the government has implemented specific protocols and guidelines. These include routine health screenings at the international border and a 21-day incubation period.
Although no local cases have been reported, these measures are designed to facilitate the early detection of any potential cases.
The Ministry of Health emphasizes the need for ongoing surveillance and adaptation as necessary, while also stressing the importance of managing stigma associated with the disease.
