A holistic approach that combines spirituality with medical treatment can serve as a powerful means of helping individuals overcome drug addiction, according to Pastor Epi Ligairi, national program director of Adult and Teen Challenge in Fiji.
The center, founded by Reverend Hemraj Mangal, recently assisted a patient referred from St Giles Hospital, providing both medicinal care and spiritual guidance. Mr. Ligairi reported that this patient made a complete recovery, highlighting the effectiveness of their integrated approach.
The program focuses on addressing addiction through spiritual empowerment, which Mr. Ligairi believes is vital for genuine change. He stated, “We know we can, by the power of God, transform and change people.” This philosophy encompasses a deep reliance on biblical teachings as a cornerstone for recovery.
While acknowledging the collaboration with medical institutions, Mr. Ligairi emphasized the distinct impact of their program. “We respect that institution, we walk hand in hand with them,” he said, underlining their reinforcement of professional medical practices alongside their comprehensive healing methods.
His commitment to working with students brings him both personal and professional fulfillment, a sentiment he expressed in stating that their efforts create a ripple effect that positively influences the broader Fijian community.
This story exemplifies the positive transformation that can occur when different healing philosophies intersect, offering hope not only for individuals battling addiction but also for the greater society. The combined support of faith and medicine offers pathways to recovery that can ultimately lead to a stronger, healthier community.
