A holistic approach that combines spirituality with medical support can be a powerful tool in helping individuals overcome drug addiction, according to Pastor Epi Ligairi, the national program director of Adult and Teen Challenge (Fiji). The center, founded by Reverend Hemraj Mangal, recently assisted a patient from St Giles Hospital, offering both medicinal care and spiritual guidance, leading to a full recovery for the individual.

Pastor Ligairi emphasized the importance of attracting more individuals to their program, especially considering the complexity of some cases. He believes that through faith and the structured discipleship process implemented at the center, individuals can be liberated from their struggles with addiction.

While acknowledging the role of traditional medical institutions, Ligairi stresses that true transformation is achieved through spiritual teachings, particularly those found in the Bible. He noted that while they often collaborate with healthcare facilities by bringing students for medical treatment, the comprehensive change comes from their program, which combines both faith and therapy.

The pastor expressed a deep sense of fulfillment from witnessing the recovery of students, stating that it not only impacts the individuals but also resonates throughout the entire nation of Fiji. He sees this work as contributing to a broader positive change in society.

This dual approach to recovery highlights the potential for integrating spirituality and medicine in treating addiction, suggesting a hopeful pathway for those seeking to reclaim their lives. By fostering both physical and spiritual healing, programs like Adult and Teen Challenge could pave the way for meaningful transformation, offering hope to individuals and communities alike.
