The Ministry of Education has recognized the severe state of school infrastructure, which poses significant challenges regarding Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro highlighted the case of Nabua Primary School, where students are learning in unsafe conditions.

Mr. Radrodro noted that preliminary investigations revealed construction issues with the school’s building, left unfinished by previous management. “We are currently engaging with the new management to determine the best approach to complete the construction,” he stated. The Minister encouraged the school to formally request assistance from the government through the Ministry of Education to facilitate the completion of the building.

Currently, many classrooms at the school are equipped with rusted roofs and missing window blades, creating potential safety hazards for students. The situation has prompted further inquiries, leading to the Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh, sending a team to the school on November 4. A report on the OHS issues was expected to be released shortly after, although there has been a lack of communication from the ministry despite repeated follow-ups.

The ongoing efforts to improve school infrastructure signal a commitment to safeguarding student welfare and enhancing their learning environments. With the right support and timely interventions, it’s hoped that conditions can be rapidly improved, ensuring that all students have access to safe and conducive learning spaces.

Ultimately, this issue emphasizes the importance of addressing infrastructure challenges in schools, paving the way for a safer educational experience for all students.
