The Ministry of Education has recognized that inadequate school infrastructure is compromising Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in schools. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro specifically mentioned a troubling situation at Nabua Primary School, where students are exposed to unsafe conditions.
Minister Radrodro noted that there are several issues with the school’s building, which was left incomplete by the previous management. He emphasized that the current management should reach out for governmental assistance to address these shortcomings and complete the necessary construction.
Many classrooms at Nabua Primary School feature rusted roofs and windows that lack blades, creating significant safety hazards for students. In response to these concerns, Minister of Employment, Productivity, and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh, confirmed that a team had visited the school on November 4 to assess the situation, with a report expected to be published shortly thereafter.
While the ministry has faced challenges in delivering timely updates regarding the OHS report despite multiple follow-ups, there remains hope for improvement. The commitment to addressing these safety issues reflects a willingness to push for essential changes in school infrastructure, ensuring that students can learn in a safer environment.
This situation highlights the critical importance of government accountability and proactive measures to enhance educational facilities. Addressing these infrastructure challenges not only promises a safer environment for the students but also paves the way for a future where educational institutions can thrive and provide effective learning experiences.
