William Havili is set to make history as the first player from Moana Pasifika to reach 50 matches when the team takes on the Fijian Drua in Lautoka this Saturday. Havili, one of four players who have been with Moana Pasifika since its inaugural season in 2022, expressed his excitement about this milestone.

“It’s an honour and a privilege to not only play one game but 50 games for Moana,” Havili said. He is hopeful for a good performance against the Drua, aiming to secure a victory for the fans.

Head coach Fa’alogo Tana Umaga highlighted the significance of the matchup, stating, “Anytime we play against the Fijian Drua, it’s special. What an awesome opportunity it is to celebrate the start of Super Rugby Pacific with two teams representing the Pacific Islands.” He underscored the importance of focusing on their strengths while considering the home advantage that the Drua enjoys in Lautoka.

Havili noted the challenging nature of playing against their Pacific rivals, recognizing the Drua’s expansive playing style. “It’s awesome playing against our Pacific brothers. They are an expansive team and they like to throw the ball around. It will be a good match-up, especially over there in Fiji; it will be hot, but the boys are ready for it,” he remarked.

Having started his Super Rugby career with a debut against the Crusaders in 2022, the 27-year-old Havili has evolved into a key player, combining skillful playmaking with strong leadership, which has been instrumental in supporting Moana’s emerging talents.

This match will also mark a milestone for Miracle Faiilagi, who will captain the team for the first time, while the lineup features formidable players like Semisi Paea and Semisi Tupou Ta’eiloa in the back row. Fans will also witness the return of the powerful Ngani Laumape, who will take the field for Moana Pasifika for the first time, teaming up with Lalomilo Lalomilo in the midfield.

As Moana Pasifika prepares for this historic clash, the focus is on showcasing their strengths and delivering a thrilling encounter for their supporters.
