Rod Dominish, a seasoned figure in the hash running community and a frequent visitor to Fiji, has expressed his support for the upcoming Pan Asia-Pacific Hash event, sponsored by the Pacific Specialist Healthcare Hospital. This inaugural event will take place in Nadi, Fiji, from September 16 to 18, 2027.
Dominish, who started his journey with the Sydney Hash House Harriers in 1967 and later founded the Wagga Wagga Hash House Harriers in 1974, has a rich history in this unique running culture. Now in his 80s, he is currently enjoying a holiday with his family at the Wyndham Resort on Denarau Island. He shared his excitement about returning to Fiji, marking his 20th trip to the island.
In anticipation of the 2027 event, Dominish acknowledged the vital role of sponsors in facilitating such gatherings, hoping it will bring together participants from across the region.
Event director Dr. Ram Raju, who serves as the emeritus grand master of Nadi Hash House Harriers, emphasized that September was chosen strategically for several reasons. He highlighted that by March 2025, an Australian-hosted Nashash would occur, allowing Fiji’s contingent to rally support from Australian hashers and other participants. Following that, the 20th Pan Asia Hash in Taiwan and the Interhash event in Indonesia in 2026 are also on the calendar. Dr. Raju believes that these international events will contribute significantly to the success of the Pan Asia-Pacific Hash in 2027.
September is also seen as an ideal time as it falls within the off-peak season in Fiji, potentially allowing for more favorable hotel rates and pleasant weather. The event will be collaboratively organized by three hash clubs in the Nadi region: the Nadi, Malolo, and Hospital Hash House Harriers chapters.
This upcoming event not only showcases the spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition among hashers but also highlights Fiji as a hospitable destination for international gatherings. The anticipation building around the Pan Asia-Pacific Hash reflects a positive outlook towards community engagement and cultural exchange among participating nations. It’s an exciting time for both hashers and Fiji, with the potential for memorable experiences on the horizon.
