Twenty-year-old Esther Tehilah Jikoibau is on a mission to make a meaningful impact through her singing, following in the footsteps of her parents while embodying their values of love and compassion. A participant in the local talent show, FMF Vocal Battle, aired on Fiji One in 2024, Esther has since showcased her talent at various gatherings and events.

Growing up in Sigatoka, Esther attended Sigatoka Methodist College, where she honed her skills and gained confidence performing in front of her peers. “Singing in front of the entire school boosted my confidence,” she reflected, noting that she even created tunes for the school choir. Her university days further ignited her passion for music as she joined the Student Life ministry, which provided her with additional opportunities to showcase her abilities.

Esther’s musical inspiration is deeply rooted in her family. With a father from Tubou, Lakeba, and a mother from Savai’i, Samoa, both of whom are gifted singers, she credits them for the musical influence that has shaped her journey. Interestingly, Esther did not initially enter the vocal competition for the prize money; rather, she was encouraged by a friend to participate “just to try it out.” The surprise of being selected among the top 20 contestants spurred her commitment to continue in the competition.

Currently a student at the University of the South Pacific, Esther’s dedication extends beyond her academic life. She actively participates in her church as a youth member, fulfilling her parents’ wishes while acting as a role model for her younger siblings and peers. With God as the central force in her life, she demonstrates that her talents are more than just a personal pursuit; they serve as a means of uplifting her community.

Esther’s journey highlights the importance of nurturing one’s talents and the potential for positivity and inspiration in the lives of others. Her story aligns with a broader narrative seen in Fiji, where many individuals are overcoming challenges to achieve their dreams. Just as aspiring artists empower themselves through community support, Esther serves as a beacon of hope and encouragement, reminding others to embrace their gifts and share them with the world.
