Hard Work Pays Off: Fiji Father-Daughter Win Bronze at Primary Schools Tukers Games

Hard work and dedication have finally paid off for Nemani Buliruarua and his daughter, Esther Buliruarua, who proudly took home two bronze medals for Cakaudrove last Friday at the Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Tukers Games Competition held at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

Last year, Esther experienced disappointment after not securing a medal at the competition. However, that setback fueled their determination to succeed this year. “Last year, Esther was heartbroken not to win any medals. I told her not to be frustrated, and that if she wanted to win a medal next year and have her name mentioned in the media, we would need to work hard and prepare,” Buliruarua shared.

Esther’s triumph this year is seen as a culmination of their dedicated efforts, and Buliruarua expressed gratitude towards everyone who supported them, especially the teachers and coaches at Tacilevu Village School and their Cakaudrove team.

Reflecting on her achievements, 12-year-old Esther, who previously finished fourth in the U11 75-meter and 4×100 meters, beamed with pride: “I want to thank my father, my teammates, and especially my coaches. This year, I’m so proud to return home with two bronze medals from the U12 400-meter and U12 4×400-meter for my school and my district.”

With the two bronze medals under their belt, the father-daughter duo from Tacilevu village aims to come back even stronger next year. Their success has not only inspired their team but has also motivated the entire Tacilevu Village School community, who are also determined to return with more medals for their beloved district of Cakaudrove next year. This story serves as a powerful reminder of resilience and community spirit, demonstrating how hard work and determination can lead to success.
